Are your “personal” Skpye Conversations Secure?
Steve McGrath/ Director of Operation for PCTech Denver answers the question on 98.5 KYGO’s Kelly & Rider Morning Show. Click on the KYGO icon to the left to listen the the sound byte…. Skype Conversations are one of the most secure methods to communicate over the internet via voice or video. Skype users benefit by having a peer to peer connection that is encrypted. Communication that is sent from computer #1 is encrypted with an algorythim that only computer #2 can decypher; same goes for communication from computer #2 back to #1. When you are in a session with another Skype user, you are assured to be having a personal and private conversation. On the other hand, Skype users have the ability to recieve and make calls to outside numbers via the land line.
These communication are secure only until the voice data hits the outside line; they are then vulnerable to anyone having the capabilities to intercept. If you are not protected or infected by any of the latest virus, malware and spyware threats, your secure Skype sessions still may be at risk. Some of the latest viruses allow for hackers to come in and take control of your PC; virtually acting on your behalf by manipulating your computer as the owner. This means that they can see, hear, and perform any fuction as if the were you. Keep your system up to date on the latest virus, spyware and malware protection programs. Contact PCTech Denver if you have any questions regarding this matter….
